Described as the Middle East light, Bahrain is a country that mixes modern infrastructure with the identity of the Gulf. This country is known to be a Muslim country but is considered as one of the more liberal ones after it allowed its citizens the freedom to choose their religion. It is one of the few countries wherein you would see a mosque having a Catholic church or a Hindu temple as its neighbour.

Known to be the location of the Biblical Garden of Eden, it was known in ancient times by the name of Dilmun. With over eight million visitors a year, Bahrain truly has some of the best tourist attractions in the world. Thanks to the country’s love for their heritage, Bahrain has preserved the oldest and most historical places.

This kingdom combines Arab culture Gulf glitz and the archaeological legacy of five thousand years of civilization. So, ever fancied visiting this authentic and welcoming place? First, let me introduce to you the places you could visit during your stay here.

Qalat Al Bahrain, is a castle that has been listed down by the UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. It is composed of an artificial mound created by human inhabitants from 2300 BC up to the 1700’s and was once known as the capital of the ancient Dilmun.

If you are into biology, or to be more specific, in botany the best place for you to visit is the Tree of Life. This tree is a 400-year old mesquite tree considered as a natural wonder. The tree stands alone in the desert about 1.2 kilometres away from Jebel Dukhan and where the tree gets the water to live that long is a complete mystery.

If you were wondering how people knew about oil in the Persian Gulf, then the first oil well in Bahrain might answer your question. Way back on the 16th of October 1931, the well began to spurt out oil and on the morning of June 2, 1932, it expelled a lot of oil which has been mined ever since.

Just like any modernized country in the world, Bahrain has its share of malls and markets. With the combination of tradition and a touch of modernity, you will surely love the market place of Manama Souq.. Located in the heart of the city, near Bab Al Bahrain the market is really not that difficult to find, though if you ever get lost, find a noisy crowded place and you are definitely there.

Touring Bahrain can be a wonderful adventure, and if you get a little hungry, go for the best Bahrain delicacy experience at Cico’s Restaurant. This restaurant is an award winning restaurant so expect the best dining experience Bahrain can offer.

So, still wondering what places in the world to visit? Start with Bahrain! This country has a lot to offer whether you are a Muslim, a Catholic, a Hindu, a Jehovah, or a Buddhist. The stigma of Muslim countries has never been as untrue as it is in Bahrain where you will be welcomed like family.

Tips For Finding Flights To Amsterdam

Fortunately for the traveler, Amsterdam is one of the busiest hubs in Europe for air travel. You’ll find that most major airlines have routes that directly to Amsterdam from nearly any other country around the globe. This article can help you understand your best options when trying to arrange your flight.

From the UK or Ireland

There is no shortage of flights for tourists coming to Amsterdam from the UK, and you can pretty much take your pick from major airlines like KLM, British Midlands or British Airways. For those traveling on a budget, you can get cheaper flights with BMIbaby, easyJet and Thomsonfly. Not all flights are going to cost the same though, it will greatly depend on the airport you are leaving from.

If you want a direct flight, you will be able to fly out of Aberdeen, Cardiff, Coventry, East Midlands, Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Teesside and more. If you are coming from Ireland, there are routes from Belfast and Dublin.

There are also routes by bus or train which will take longer than a flight, but will cost you less.

From the United States and Canada

Amsterdam is a main European hub, so there are many flights from North America to Amsterdam. You’ll get the most route choices if you fly with KLM or NorthWest Airlines, as they both have numerous direct and one-stop flights. From major airports in Florida, you can get a flight to Amsterdam with budget carrier MartinAir. United Airlines have some direct flights if you are departing from Chicago, and Delta has service coming from Atlanta.

When departing from Canada, you can get direct flights to Amsterdam from both Vancouver and Toronto when flying with KLM.

From Australia and New Zealand

Unfortunately, you will not find any direct flights to Amsterdam if you are coming from either Australia or New Zealand. Your best bet is to get an inexpensive flight to London, and then transfer to a budget airline like easyJet to continue your trip.

From Other Parts of Europe

You will have no trouble at all finding an airline for such a short flight, and most European capitals will have low-cost airline service to Amsterdam.

From Asia

If you are coming from Asia, you’ll most likely be flying on KLM when you head to the Netherlands. They have service to airports in China, India, South Korea, Indonesia, Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.

From South America

Again, you can fly with KLM from the major airports in Argentina, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, Surinam, and Venezuela.

From the Middle East

Most countries in the Middle East are served by KLM. They include: Jordan, Kuwait, Iran, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Israel.

From Africa

Many major airports across Africa have KLM service for flights to Amsterdam. You can fly from Kenya, Egypt, Madagascar, Morocco, Uganda, Tanzania, South Africa, Burkina Faso, Benin, Senegal, Mauritania, Nigeria, Zambia and Ghana. Several other African countries also have KLM flights to Amsterdam.

So my husband and I are pretty excited to be going on our first europe adventure… but as I am a planner and we have part of the trip planned and the other half not I find myself stressing.

We are going to be leaving May 21 to Venice and have a week to venture out wherever but need to be back in Venice on May 29 to go for our 2 week cruise down to greece.

I am thinking of spending our first night in Venice and then treking out by train to Rome or ? And then continuing on by train wherever making sure we are back to Venice by cruise time.

What I am wondering is whether anyone has recommendations on whether to stay the night in Venice well near the train station… or just take the train despite it being around 11 at night. And where we should go for our week or so of freedom.

Any suggestions would be so helpful- tips and tricks especially!

Methinks I will not die quite happy without having seen something of that Rome of which I have read so much. – Sir Walter Scott

Rome is the number one city on many art lovers’ wish list of places to visit. Why? Quite simply, Rome is home to some of the greatest art and architecture treasures in the world in addition to its beautiful cityscapes, quaint alleyways, exciting nightlife, and luxurious hotels. These wonders, along with possibly the best food found anywhere, make Rome the city to see or “methinks I will not die happy”.

Visitors to Rome will at once become immersed in history. The entire history of the city can be seen through its many ancient buildings, sculptures, and the magnificent artwork found in the city’s museums.

Rome’s ancient beginnings can be seen in Greek and Roman architecture, its contributions to the modern world in Renaissance and Baroque paintings and sculpture.

The starting point of any Roman experience should be the magnificent Borghese Gallery. The suburban
Borghese villa, erected in the early 1600s, was home to the rich and powerful Borghese family. Great
patrons of the arts, this illustrious family became the first patrons of a young artist, Gian Lorenzo Bernini.

His works can be found, along with many other old masters, in the gallery. Treat your senses to Caravaggio, Raphael, Rubens, and Titian just to name a few. The Borghese Gallery also houses a sculpture garden with works by Bernini and the famous “Paolini” by Canova.

The walls of many rooms in the villa are excellent examples of an early Roman art form, Incrustation. This type of work involved painting the interior walls to resemble marble and was popular with families who could not afford true marble walls. It may seem odd to find what was once pedestrian art in this gorgeous villa but it is only here as an example of early art forms in Rome. The incrustations in the Borghese Gallery were moved here from other homes in the city.

For unsurpassed architectural experiences you must visit the Colosseum and the Pantheon. The Colosseum is a large elliptical structure built during the Flavian Empire. Walk in as ancient spectators would – through the vomitoria, 64 doors that allowed patrons entrance to the gladiatorial battles held here. Much of the original Colosseum remains including examples of Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian columns surrounding the arena.

The Pantheon is perhaps the city’s hippest place to be. Surprising for a building that is 2,000 years old? Typical of Roman fashion, the Pantheon is surrounded by intimate outdoor cafes and courtyards where you can enjoy a gourmet meal and gaze at the mesmerizing structure.

After dining you can stroll through the Pantheon itself and see the tomb of Raphael, buried in 1520. Unlike “La Fornarina, the mistress who was banned from Raphael’s funeral, you can enjoy the exquisite pleasures of the large dome, the sculpted walls, and gracious columns. Romans say the best time to visit the Pantheon is during a rainstorm. Great sheets of rain enter the structure through the occulas atop the dome and splatter on the brilliant colors of the marble floor added when the original structure was rebuilt by Hadrian in 126.

There are countless other treasures to explore while in Rome. The Capital and Museum offer an underground look at the Roman Forum. In this complex structure you will find examples of art from all phases of Roman history. Etruscan kings, Greek art, the Empire period, and more are on view in the Capitolini Museums.

For a truly unusual experience create your own Angels and Demons tour. Dan Brown made many of Rome’s sites famous as pivotal points in his book, Angel and Demons. You can follow the path of the Illuminati and let angels guide you along the backstreets and alleyways of Rome as you search for clues to the novel’s intricate plot.

Once underway you will see the famous Passetto, the Castel of the Angel, and other chapels and squares. Stops along the way of the book’s characters included the Pantheon, Raphael’s Chigi Chapel, and the portico of St. Peter’s Square. The prize for undertaking this journey? Bernini’s masterpiece, the monumental “Fountain of the Four Rivers” in the Piazza Novona is the perfect place to enjoy a private dinner and digest the many wonders you have just experienced.

Happy Travels!

Yes, currency changes. It always does. Constantly. sometimes many times a day.
Do you know what it means that they have seen some inflation, and their money is “worth more than ours”? Two things:
1. things cost pretty much the same as they do in the US. A hotel room is around $75 – 100 for a decent motel type place for two. Lunch, in general, will cost about $10 per person for a budget restaurant, and dinner a bit more. T-shirts, about $15 – 20 at most shops.
2. When you do the money conversion…something that costs 1€ = about $1.40 or so. You just do the conversions.
It certainly doesn’t mean that if you save up enough money, you can’t do it. It just means the conversions are different than they were 10 years ago. And, btw, the Euro has been higher than the US $ for 5 years or so. That’s not news.

I have been to Europe and do not reccomend going for 2 weeks – you want to go AT LEAST a month to take in all the sights and sounds. It is a really expensive trip so if you go for 2 weeks, you won’t see everything, and then regret that you didn’t do more. For the price of the flight vs. the price of staying at a little hotel or motel and taking the train all over Europe, it is SO much more worth it to go for a month or more. Did I mention it was expensive?! Plan to spend at least $3,000 on travel & accomodations.

MOST places in Europe the dollar is worth less than their currency. Most of Europe uses the Euro, which is about 1 1/2 times the amount of a dollar, Great Britain uses pounds which is worth slightly more than 2 times the dollar (i went to London and it was extremely expensive, but i love london still). Thats the extent of my knowledge. If you’re going to Europe, i recomend England, Germany, France, Italy, or Croatia.

If you want to have some entertainment.Go to Bodrum in Turkey. It is a wonderful place to visit. You have lots of things to do like sunbathing, swimming, meeting people from many other countries, relaxing, visiting old places, going to night clubs in Turkbuku etc.Besides If you want to visit cultural places go to Istanbul. It is a very cultural and Touristic city in the world.Istanbul is also the 3rd most visiting places in Europe and It will be the capital city of culture in 2010 of Europe.I am sure you won’t regret.

Yea sure,
UK Money Currency is more than Dollar
but other countries in EU have same Currency, in addition some countries like France are too expensive, one bottle of water is 5$, see how is expensive and imagine about price of hotels and restaurants.
But some part are normal and you can enjoy very much, like Germany or Italy or Austria or Netherlands.
wish you have a great vacation.

It depends where you go and where you’re from. Not every European country uses the Euro. The UK still uses the pound which has lost value recently but is still worth more than the US Dollar (i assume that wher you are from).
